Make PDFs smaller while keeping text sharp.
How to use Compress PDF

- Select one or more PDFs.
- Choose a compression level.
- Press Compress PDF and compare the before/after size on the result page.
Options explained
- Extreme
- Smallest file. Images are downscaled to ~110 dpi and compressed strongly. Good for email attachments.
- Recommended
- Best balance — images around 150 dpi, very good quality.
- Less
- High quality, moderate size reduction. Good for printing.
Tips for best results
- Scanned PDFs (made of photos) shrink the most — often 70–95%.
- PDFs that are mostly text are already small; they may shrink only a little.
- If the result would be larger than the original, you get the original back.
Questions
Does compression remove text or links?
No. Text, fonts, links and vector drawings are not touched — only embedded images are recompressed, plus a lossless structure optimization.
Is Osd-Scan really free?
Yes. Every web tool is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. The website is supported by ads. A paid desktop app for Windows (one-time purchase, no ads) is coming soon.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens inside your browser on your own device. Your documents never leave your computer or phone, so nobody — including us — can see them. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and Samsung Internet on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone/iPad. For the camera scanner on a phone the page must be opened over https.
